Instructions for Creating Day Cards Revisions in red - from original of 6/4/2010 First , practice on something else the use of the following commands. Should be able to (almost) do as well as writing your name and without looking at the keys
  • Select a word or phrase - Left click mouse and move cursor over area desired and release.
  • Select all is "Control A" or "ctrl a" or usually ctrl a
  • Copy is "Control C" or "ctrl c" or usually just ctrl c
  • Paste is "Control V" or "ctrl v" or usually ctrl v
  • Select all is "Control A" or "ctrl a" or usually ctrl a
  1. Obviously the problem with printing day cards is that they are out of day almost as soon as printed. Therefore one has to weigh the advantage of doing months vs month. If one does several months, it is a more efficient job but many will be out of date by the time the day gets here. On the other hand, printing a month or just a couple of weeks to have them as close to current as possible makes it an onerous task as one needs to do more often.
  2. Advise the other one is getting ready to make cards and ask to update own calendar.
  3. Decide time from to use
  4. Open Wordpad, find it if a program. One way is to click on start and type Wordpad in the search space and it will find it. Then click on it to open
  5. Open Yahoo calendar program
  6. Be sure calendar has all the events one can imagine.
  7. Glance over calendar to see if any are obvious to shorten, though short is not a big issue and especially if the entry is not clear
  8. Review results. Check to see if other has calendar ready.
  9. Go to the weekly view
  10. Selected the week starting with date in left hand of week calendar
  11. copy (ctr C works best here though can go to file/copy)
  12. Open Wordpad, if not already
  13. Paste into Wordpad page (Ctr V or file/paste works)
  14. Go to the next week
  15. Repeat the select, copy, paste routine for however many weeks you want to cover.
  16. Look at results. Did you miss a week? If so can add at end (or in right sequence)
  17. Find a word (or words you know you want to replace). Be careful of words such as birthday which might have two in a row and trying to replace one will not work as both will disappear)
  18. Now a tricky part,
  19. Copy the word or phrase such as, without quotes, "[delete]" - In Wordpad click edit/replace. A box will open. Paste "[delete]" into the space for "find what?". Believe me using ctrl c (for copy) and ctrl V (for paste) is the best way to do it and should be computer 101 basic training. I guess you can do with the file/copy and file/paste but why? (I checked it and it does not work or I could not get the paste to work). Using ctrl c and ctrl v should be second nature just as typing ones name with eyes closed , I am serious, please.
  20. In the space for "Replace with" put what you want to replace with. In what we are doing, it is nothing so do not put anything there.
  21. click replace all
  22. Say ok if it tells you it replaced something.
  23. The box will remain there and that is ok, leave it there
  24. Go to the next word to be replaced and find in the text on Wordpad. Assume it is [edit] so select/copy/paste " [edit]" as previously and follow previous instructions.
  25. do this for lots of words such as delete, edit, reminder, repeating, all day.etc for all words or phrases which are superfluous
  26. Edit out blanks or spaces, except Edit out blank lines and too long lines, try for single space lines with no empty lines, EXCEPT . . .
  27. Have a blank line before the day/date but not under it
  28. Get time and subject on same line (big effort here, lots of delete and move to end of line)
  29. Manually remove extra "sanctuary" or "birthday" if are present and other similar double words
  30. Correct or remove where it says "Mr_redding busy"
  31. Make margins wide as possible in page setup
  32. Select all the text, use ctrl A (PLEASE), then go to top select FORMAT, then FONT, then font of Times Roman and font style of bold and font size of 10 and color of blue
  33. Test print to Printfree screen and do two to a page. Work from top now and Notice if any days are spitting at end of page . If so, close out printfree, go back to Wordpad and either add or delete space or lines by adding a return or combing a line.
  34. Repeat print preview and back to editing until satisfied with the splits
  35. If all is ok, ready to print.
  36. Make sure the printer is set and the "best" setting - this normally is never used. In Printfree, click on the printer name and go to ADVANCED, go to PROPERTIES, and set to BEST (remember when through with this project to reset to draft or normal or whatever you like for day to day work.)
  37. Repeat, as mentioned above, the following as needed: Select all the text, use ctrl A , then go to top select FORMAT, then FONT, then font of Times Roman and font style of bold and font size of 10 and color of blue
  38. Get white INDEX cards and decide whether you want the lines on same side as the day text. With clear, it is better on blank sides as lines show through other and make it harder to read. White labels won't matter.
  39. Take the printed sheet and cut in half then work with each side.
  40. Then on each side , Cut as straight and neat as possible but zig zag if a day is way too long or short to save the paper. You can save the paper not used for using later for handwritten labels.
  41. Have a trash can close by to put the backing into immediately - or when you get through you will have a royal mess to clean up.
  42. Now, Start at last day printed and pull the backing off the sheet. Stick the sheet on something with the top stuck. Cut the sheet apart for each day beginning at bottom. The last day will be at bottom. Decide which side of index card you want to use. Put on the index card. I often did on right side and that makes it easier to downsize the card for the Daily Suggester, but I noticed I did on left side in June. I think it looks neater on left. I like the date always on right side for filing - see more about adding the date and year and month below
  43. Repeat, as mentioned above, the following as needed: Select all the text, use ctrl A , then go to top select FORMAT, then FONT, then font of Times Roman and font style of bold and font size of 10 and color of blue
  44. Print - and double check if it looks right, . . .so good luck!
  45. After cards printed, Go through and stamp upper right hand corner with a month and year type. Manually add the date in the middle
